Connective Tissue Therapy
Many chiropractic treatments will focus on the adjustment. My approach is to go beyond the adjustment, to find the deep misalignments that allow joint restrictions to persist over time.
Movement
for Health
I find the deep fascial misalignments that allow joint restrictions to persist over time, affecting not only our musculoskeletal system, but our organs, nerves and flow of fluids. Fascia connects everything, from our toes to the crown of our head. It is a living tissue, with nerves, white blood cells and other components that provide the greatest communication system of the human body. Anti-aging comes from the inside out, the more we stimulate our body through movement we keep the motor cortex of the brain active, which in turn supports the rest of the brain and healthy neurotransmitter and hormone activity.
Improved glide between muscles
Increased Flexibility
Breaks up scar tissues from muscles & tendons
Increase Range Of Motion in Injured Joints
Who is Chiropractic for?
Chiropractic is for everyone. Studies have shown the benefits of a chiropractic adjustment are numerous, the very least of which is an improvement in range of motion and the relaxation of tight superficial spinal muscles, whilst stimulating the deep stabilizer muscles.
Some common uses for chiropractic include:
Sports Rehabilitation
Being an athlete includes putting the body through intense training regimes. In training, some tissues can be used asymmetrically, causing the joints to misalign. Tissues are also being broken down (catabolism) and built back up (anabolism) in athletic activity. Chiropractic can help minimize healing time and align the joints for optimal movement. Dr. Burley has 10 years of experience working with athletes in all sport disciplines, from professional football players to young ballerinas.
Migrane & Neuropathic Pain
Migraines are multifactorial, and one of the greatest contributors to these disabling headaches is nerve pain coming from the neck and shoulders. Chiropractors can assess the muscles, ligaments, capsules and joints that may be compromising the nerves that manifest a migraine. Neuropathic (nerve) pain can be found elsewhere in the body, and any nerve that is being pinched or injured will create a specific pattern of numbness, pain or weakness that Dr. Burley can identify and treat.
Active Release Therapy
ART® is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. We are proud to have ART practitioners at my clinic in Yaletown.
Pre-Natal Care
Pre and post pregnancy are some of the most important times in a woman’s life to get chiropractic treatments. Dr. Burley is certified in the Webster technique, which includes an assessment of the sacroiliac joint for dysfunction. Treatment includes restoring alignment to the sacroiliac joint, soft tissue therapy of the ligaments and upper thigh. Postnatal care is important in knitting the body back together after delivery (vaginal or cesarean), and decreasing postural strain from nursing and carrying baby.
Children & Youth
Children and youth can experience the same musculoskeletal strains that adults do, from athletic injury, postural, or emotional stress. In the past 10 years, the amount of children experiencing headaches and postural strain from handheld devices and computers have exploded. Treatment for children is tailored to the symptoms they are experiencing, and includes postural and exercise recommendations.
